Social Media & Internet Safety Warning!

A mobile app called Burnbook is causing disruption at schools throughout California and nationwide. Burnbook allows users to anonymously post threats, bullying, and pornography.

We are encouraging students to delete the Burnbook app, and we need parents’ help to reinforce this message. Burnbook itself states that users must be 18 years or older or 17 with permission from a legal guardian in order to create an account.

According to the creator of the app the purpose is for positive input.  Unfortunately a lot of students that have used the app are using it in a negative way to post slanderous and inappropriate content with anonymity.  Santa Rosa Academy administration has been in contact with Burnbook App and are currently monitoring the situation.

We ask that parents and guardians periodically review the content on their students’ phones, including apps and photos and talk openly to their children regarding their online reputations. Online privacy is an illusion; it is wrong to assume that you will remain anonymous in the digital age, especially when making threats against anyone.
